Untitled

'untitled' 60x60 cm. Oil paint, oil bar, graphite, collage on canvas board.
My current painting practice is process led, whereby I am following my research method of responding to on-going mono printing whilst experimenting with new materials and surfaces to explore different ways of describing a place, in particularly edgelands; spaces between places.
I have been utilising images from Google maps and ordnance survey maps along with my own photography to examine topography, mapping and perception of place. Working in this way has led to the idea of playing with scale in these new paintings.
Abstracting elements and pattern from the landscape has allowed me the freedom to play with my idea of a place and has been exciting in terms of developing ways of creating an image. I have expanded the materials I normally work with from using solely oil paint and a palette knife, to a mixed media approach, including collage and direct printing methods and in fact looking at anything in my studio as a means towards mark making.
